BRAND STRATEGY

Find clarity, communicate with confidence, and attract the right people to your work.

Brand strategy sessions + mini-manual

Brand strategy is about understanding who you are, what you stand for, and how you show up in the world. Organisations and projects are living systems that evolve, and a strong brand helps you communicate consistently while staying adaptable. Through a series of structured strategy sessions, we’ll explore your positioning, audience, messaging, and attributes to create a solid foundation that guides everything you do.

FAQs

What is ‘brand’ and why is it important?

Think of brand strategy as the art of understanding who you are and what you do in relation to the world around you. We’re naturally drawn to people who are authentic, interesting and unique. Organisations and projects are the same. We’re able to find our natural attractors — the people who are picking up what we’re putting down — when we understand who we are and we communicate it consistently.

How is the work you do ‘regenerative’?

All of my work is guided by regenerative principles, you can read more about this here. This helps move our communication from being extractive and playing on people’s fear to narratives that help create the conditions for real, systemic change.

I do this by looking for patterns within your organisation and helping you to design brand, messaging, and all types of content that will evolve with you.

I believe that communication should aim to go beyond being engaging and interesting, and actively help develop people, where appropriate.

What’s your process like?

I’ll facilitate a number of brand strategy workshops online for you and a small number of key people. During these workshops, we’ll go through exercises and frameworks that I’ve developed from the Regenesis Institute as well as well-established, innovative strategic frameworks from the likes of The Futur and Mark Pollard.

At the end of this, I give you a brand mini-manual, complete with examples of how to use all of your new messaging across many different channels.

I can also collaborate with a visual designer in my network, or one of your own, to incorporate a visual identity refresh — logo, colours, fonts, iconography — and how everything works seamlessly together.

How long does brand development take?

Typically 5 weeks if it is including a visual identity refresh. This is based on 5 strategy sessions done over a period of 2 weeks.

Some clients like to condense the strategy sessions into a few consecutive half days, while others like to take their time and leave a couple of weeks in between sessions for deep reflection.

Generally, 5 × 90 minute strategy sessions with a couple of days in between each seems to be the sweet spot to allow for reflection, keep momentum going, and also make it very doable in your work week.

What does ‘brand’ not include?

There can be a crossover between brand and business development, depending on where your organisation is at.

In our strategy sessions, we’ll be very focussed on who you are and what the experience of working with you is like, as well as deep diving into where your audience is at and what they need.

If you have absolutely zero clue who your audience even is, or you’re in the early stages of deciding ‘what’ it is that you’ll bring to the table (the product or service), it doesn’t mean we can’t work together, some of my exercises might help, but I would need to thoroughly understand where you’re at to see if it’s a fit.

If you mainly need help with more traditional business development work, doing market research to find your customers etc, this isn’t my specific area of expertise.

What’s the cost, and do you offer flexible options for different levels of support?

The cost depends on the level of support you need, including whether you want visual design alongside brand strategy. I offer a more affordable option that focuses on the strategic process and workshops without a full brand book—many clients find this alone incredibly valuable. My approach as a solo freelancer within a network allows me to collaborate with other experts, providing high-level service and expertise at a fraction of the cost of an agency. If you’re unsure what you need, I can help you figure out the right scope for your project.
